A special case of panorama photography - high-resolution planar stitches: The images are photographed in a grid using a normal DSLR/SLR- camera with a longer focal length. The individual photos are then processed in the panorama software and put together to a large photo. So you can produce images that have the resolution and detail of a digital large- format- camera. You can present these photos as "SuperZoom" images on the web, but they can also be printed in extremely high resolution or very large. Applications are e.g. Architectural Photography, Reproduction and Fine Art.
